Hong Kong 2014
Hong Kong is getting old. With the second highest life expectancy in the world, only Japan has higher, the issue of what people do once they retire is now of vital importance for a healthy and balanced society.
30% of people aged 65+ in HK live below the poverty line.
13% of the population are 65+ years old today, 2013.
25% of the population are 65+ years old by 2030
50% of elderly are now living in subsidized housing.
Hong Kong's elderly are not only the poorest people in the city; they are among the poorest in the developed world.
With the housing market in HK is monopolized by developers, the issue of housing and the elderly is critical for the future of HK’s society.
